Jill Hathaway

Owner and Head Instructor Amherst Pilates

General info:

I myself came to Pilates as a spine injured athlete.  I thought I would never move by body in the same way again.  Pilates enabled me to reclaim my athleticism, which I felt was surely lost.  Because of this transformative experience, I altered my career path.  I continue to compete and play powerfully because of Pilates.  It is my joy and pleasure to share this with others.

I work with many different populations; from the young to the mature (aged 12 through 87), from those suffering from pain to athletes seeking to improve their performance and all the areas in between.

                                                                                               Susan Bronstein

Susan grew up in Newton, MA and headed to UMass, graduating with a degree in Communication Disorders in 1969.  She completed her masters degree in Audiology in 1970.

Returning to the city didn’t work for Susan and she finally found her way back to western Massachusetts in 1982, and settled into family life.  Susan is the proud mother of 3 grown children and 2 wonderful grandchildren.

In 1991 Susan returned to UMass as a sign language interpreter.  Working at a university Susan realized higher education was her calling and in 2007 received her doctorate in higher education.

Always interested in movement and health Susan discovered Pilates about 10 years ago.  She started buying videos – but that was unsatisfactory; a replaced knee in 2000 required some accommodating and, not knowing what to do for herself she finally found her way to a local studio.  There she met Jill Hathaway and Pilates got even better!

Susan followed Jill to her Amherst Pilates studio where, through Jill’s encouragement, Susan grew from enthusiastic practitioner (which she remains) to instructor.  During the 2011-12 academic year Susan studied Pilates through the Polestar training program and began teaching mat classes at Amherst Pilates in 2012.

An avid skier, gardener and grandma, Susan is quite convinced that her active life style is easy because of Pilates – becoming a senior citizen with strength and felicity is definitely the way to go!

Susan now teaches mat classes on Thursday evenings, 6-7pm, and Saturday mornings, 9-10am. Currently both classes are full with 8 students each: although changing schedules and family life frequently opens a spot or two and new students are alway welcome: just call her to make sure there is a spot available. Susan can be easily reached through email: susanbronstein47@gmail.com or phone: 413-626-0282.
